Simona Janišová

Simona Janišová (1985) studied ceramics at the Josef Vydra School of Applied Arts (2000 – 2004) and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. She completed her bachelor’s degree with doc. Ivica Vidrová (2008) and her master’s (2010) and doctoral degrees (2015 – 2018) with Mgr. Art. Daniel Piršč. During her studies, she was on a study visit to Thessaloniki and Prague, after her studies she did an internship at Barnaby Barford’s studio in London (2011) and a residency in China (2014). Since 2012, she has been working with Linda Viková on small-series production under the si.li brand. She worked as a curator for the Ceramics and Porcelain Collection of the Slovak Museum of Design. In 2017, she won the main prize at the Bratislava Design Week festival. She exhibits in Slovakia and abroad. In her free-form work, she brings innovative approaches to traditional ceramic techniques. Her objects combine functionality, aesthetics, and a personal story.
